Yoga… as a gateway to Holistic Health, Healing and Recovery

It was 2015, I was on a packed tube… I remember it so vividly… up, close and personal with the book that would change the trajectory of my teaching and ultimately my career.

The book… Bessel Van Der Kolk’s now renowned “The Body Keeps the Score.” It opened my eyes to the somatic experience of stress and trauma, and did so accessibly. And…. Bessel shared with remarkable insight how yoga can support healing, recovery, release and processing.

I was reading the book ahead of a training I was about to start….a TT specific to supporting military veterans with PTSD. That training and Bessel’s insight had a profound impact on me.

Across the last decade, I have with dedication pursued training, research and self-study, expanding my knowledge and importantly my experience of somatic therapies. I have witnessed lives transform and I have watched with great interest and excitement how the benefits of somatic work have started to bridge the gap between Science and Spirituality.

Yoga as a somatic practice enables reconnection and an essential sense of interoception - an understanding and awareness of self (mind and body). Through the movement and breath, yoga enables a sense of the presence and safety, which allows for release, processing, and then… a strengthening, building of resilience, healing and recovery.
